Design and Planning Guidance for the creative quarter plus conservation area appraisal and designation. With Muf and dRMM.
One of London’s most celebrated creative quarters, Hackney Wick was facing radical change in the wake of the 2012 Olympics held on the opposite bank of the River Lee. Demand for residential in the historic former industrial area threatened to erase its creative character and uses. Together with Muf and dRMM, Authentic Futures devised a set of design and planning guidelines that protected creative uses in heritage buildings and extended a small conservation area to cover much of the enclave at the same time as accommodating thousands of residential and live-work units on derelict sites adjacent. The project formed the foundation of a subsequent masterplan that is now being built out.
